Fails to charge Treo 650
User: TOM HAMPTON, Dec 5, 2006
Exactly as said by my fellow reiviewer, contacts breaks even if still, and no charge takes place now. Will order a factory unit now, even though mine was retailed by Cingular.
Same story as the others
Bought a generic charger thinking it would do the job, and ended up having to buy directly from Palm.
Very disappointed.

Pros: cheap
Cons: doesn't do the job

Faulty Design
I have purchased other generic car chargers for my previous cell phones and did not encounter any issues.

The charger worked for about 6 months and then started having issues with connection. The charge would cycle on and off. I would have to position my treo in a certain angle for the charge to be continuous. It has since stopped working completely.I have purchased other generic car chargers for my previous cell phones and did not encounter any issues.
keeps losing contact
So I decided to go with this smartphone charger over the OEM.
I bought one for each car. What my wife and I noted immediately with our two treo 700 is that both chargers in both cars with both phones would endless cycle charging one and charging off as if contact was being broken. As this was happening with two different smartphone experts 700 chargers, and with different 700s I know it wasnt the car, or the handsets.
Contact is broken every couple of minutes (or more often) at the phone connection. this ends up in not getting a charge or worse a large number of cycles and possible damage.
I called up and was told this was a problem caused by palm with treo's connections. "OK maybe" I thought, maybe the movement of the car. so I put my normal wall charger in my car 12vdc to 120 ac adapter...and had no problem, no broken connection -- no cycling. I then bought palm car chargers and they had no problem either.
Again, I like generic products. I like giving generic marketers my money since I feel name brand companies often charge much more for the same thing simply to exploit the brand. but Smartphone experts is not delivering an equal product for less, but a lesser product and one which was a waste of money (x2).
I am also ticked that the phone support person insisted this was a palm problem. this was patronizing. he said this disconnection and cycling happens all the time, but it is palms design flaw and palms car chargers do it as well. No they don't. I haven't had this problem once with our two palm car chargers.
