Seidio: Great ideas, poor execution and support
User: kvcobra returns, Nov 10, 2006
Pros:
Works great at first, compact
Cons:
Just doesn't last, poor support
Like most Seidio products, the retractable Sync & Charge cable is a good idea with poor quality control. My first one stopped syncing after a month, and TC replaced it. After another 2 months, the second one would only charge if I held the connector firmly in place against the Treo, and it wouldn't sync at all. At that point, I wrote it off as a lost cause.
I've had similar experiences with other Seidio products (e.g., Inno.Dock, or however they try to spell it), and their customer support and tech support departments are a joke, regardless of what TC user seidioseidio tries to tell you. If another brand (JavoEdge, for example) makes a similar product, go with that. Even if it isn't more durable, at least support won't give you the runaround.
seidio products seem to break fast

have owned a number of products from Seidio. Stereo headsets (returned one 3 times!), and these retractable chargers (2). They are cheap and fragile. Tend to break after short periods of time year
Cable works but is not durable
User: Josh Lehan, Jan 4, 2009
Pros:
Compact, has HotSync button, snug Treo fit
Cons:
Not durable, USB side has no strain relief
I bought this cable to have a compact sync & charge cable for my Palm Treo 680.
It works, but is surprisingly fragile. It is not durable. I was afraid to leave it stretched out for any length of time, and ended up just using it as a very short cable, fully retracted.
I like the HotSync button, it feels solid. The connection to the Palm is also snug, which isnt true for a lot of other cables I have tried.
The weakness is in the USB connection. There is no strain relief at all, on the USB end of the cable! It looks delicate, as the wires crimp and look like theyre about to break.
The spring is also too strong. It pulls the cable extremely tight, and unless everythings lined up perfectly, it will tug on the USB connector and almost pull it right out of the socket, breaking your connection. It also threatens to loosen the Palm side of the connection.
I had several HotSync and network connections break while using this cable. The USB device would suddenly disappear, then come back just a second later, often with the dreaded Windows error box "USB Device Not Recognized". This can happen when the connection is intermittent.
I dont recommend this cable, because of this lack of durability, and the fact that the connection is very fragile. Its a shame, because otherwise, this cable would be great. I like the compact size, and the built-in HotSync button, and the snug connection to the Palm. I wish Seidio would spend a few dollars on beefing up the connection and making it less fragile.
