Interesting For a Prototype...
User: Nathan Drost, Sep 18, 2008
Pros:
It charges the phone.
Cons:
Most everything else.
I had high hopes for this cradle but unfortunately it falls rather short of the mark. It is nothing like the Palm cradle for the 650/700 series where you could slide the phone right into place every time without a problem (and charge a second battery at the same time).
First, it looks like a prototype model, not a finished product. From the cheesy looking Power sticker (where half of it covers a hole?) to a mysterious rubber grommet plugging up yet another hole on the back, it just looks rushed to market.
Second, trying to get the phone down onto the connector is not only aggravating but will more than likely eventually break either the phone connector or the cradle connector. There are four, soft foam feet on the bottom but one more should have been added directly under the front section. Without it, the unweighted cradle continually tips forward when trying to seat the phone, compounding the problem. Not to mention the many trial and error attempts have scratched the chrome-like ring around the micro USB connector on my phone and that is only after one day of trying to use it. And once seated, the phone tips side to side without a firm lock. This is most likely due to the fact they designed it to also be used when the 800w is in their Innocase, which does provide a snugger fit.
Third, the USB connector on the cradle itself is USB Type A. This is extremely rare and means that all your normal A-B cables will not work with it. Why they could not at least use a Type B connector on the cradle, who knows. Or better yet, a micro USB connector so you could use your wall charger instead of being forced to connect it to your computer (or buy a USB wall charger). Not sure about everyone else, but I charge my phone away from a computer and use Bluetooth to sync so being tied to a non-standard USB cable is annoying.
Needless to say, this cradle is going back straight away. Maybe Palm will have a real one out soon.
Doesnt Charge Well
User: Bob Johnson, Jan 21, 2009
Pros:
none
Cons:
doesnt charge well
I agree with everything the other reviewer said about this dock. It is akward, but more importantly, it doesnt charge well. When I use my wall charger, the phone is fully charged over night, when I left it in the dock for 8 hours, the phone was still not fully charged. I dont understand why it is so weak?
