TC Review: Plantronics Discovery 665 Bluetooth Headset
Reviewed by Jimmie Geddes
I was pleasantly surprised to see Plantronics provided two ways to charge the headset right out of the box. You can either charge the headset with the included Headset Charger Pocket via the USB headset cable, or use the vehicle power charger. Almost every Bluetooth headset I have seen has only come with one way to charge the headset out of the box, so when I saw that the Plantonics 665 came with a USB charger and a vehicle charger, I was very impressed. My only gripe is that I’m not always near a computer or my car, so an AC adapter would be a more useful substitute for one of the two. Plantronics does offer an AC adapter as an accessory, and can be purchased from them directly for $12.00.

With that said, I’m glad that I don’t have to buy a separate vehicle charger to keep my Bluetooth headset charged. Since I mostly use my Bluetooth headset in my car, I never have to fear running out of juice. Plantronics has me covered. While at home or work, I can keep the headset charged via the USB cable. Plantronics also includes three different sized soft gel ear tips so you can pick the appropriate size that feels most comfortable to you. They’ve also included an ear loop which I found to work great at keeping the headset securely attached to my ear. Most Bluetooth headsets are made in one design, either an ear bud, or an over the ear design. It’s great that Plantronics gives you the option of using the soft gel ear tip or popping on the ear loop as well. I found I really preferred using the ear loop attached to the headset as it made the headset feel more secure.

The Plantronics Discovery 665 Bluetooth Headset is small and sleek, weighing in at only 9 grams. The headset has three buttons on the front; volume up, volume down, and the power/call pickup/end button. The Power button is surrounded by an LED which blinks blue when powered on and red and blue when you initially pair the headset with your phone. On the back of the headset is the removable gel ear tip which snaps in and out very easily. You can also add the ear loop to the headset by snapping the soft gel ear tip through the ear loop to fasten it securely to the headset. The soft gel ear tips come in three sizes for optimal fit and comfort. They’re so soft and comfortable, I found wearing the headset for an extended period of time did not cause any discomfort.

StarStarStarStarStar Great for the price

Pros:  Comfortable, responsive, charging options a plus
Cons:  Wish battery lasted longer

Ive had about 4 bluetooth headsets before this one and so far it is the most comfortable Ive worn. If you got the cash to plunk down the same money you would spend on a phone on a Jawbone which performs just a little better, be my guest.

Dont pay attention to palms or plantronics website, this is fully compatible with your Treo/Centro.

The battery is nothing to write home about, but its very close to the advertised 3.5 hours.
StarStarStarStarStar Great design / Good Sound Qualtiy

Pros:  Great aesthetics with multiple charging options included
Cons:  snap together feature takes some practice

I like the plantronics blue tooth ear phone with my Treo 680. It has three silicon ear piece sizes to make sure the fit is comfortable and tight dpending on the size of your ears. The tight fit prevents much outside noise from entering. The silicon ear pieces keep the unit in the ear comfortably and securely. There is an optional clip to secure it to the ear, although it isn't necessary and it can be adjusted for left ear or right ear use. The unit is designed to slip into a pen-like device that can be carried in a coat pocket or clipped to a shirt. It includes several charging devices: a snap on charger for a AA battery that slips into the pen device holder, a usb connector to charge from a computer and a regular a/c charger. I'm quite pleased with the purchase.

Pros:  small and lightweight, comfortable
Cons:  windnoise

seems like only the iconic jawbone is most effective at wind noise reduction. i like the 665 otherwise, in everyway, except wind noise. i of course admit that the jawbone drowns out more (non wind) background noise -- but the 665 is more confortable, lighter, easier to pocket, and does an adequate job of normal (non wind) background noise. also has several accessories available, as all 655 tubes including the AA battery and a/c adapter will it the 665 tube. a nice device.
StarStarStarStarStar Good BT...Not so much with treo
User: Tim M, May 26, 2007

Pros:  good sound, light wieght, multiple charging options
Cons:  not a good match with treo

I bought my 665 from a retail store in case of any need to return the product. It worked ok with my 650 but still had a static issue as with all the other BT devices I used. I have been using it with my Moto Krazer and it is flawless. Everyone says it sounds great and it is super clear on my end. After letting a friend pair it with the 750p, I have decided nothing works well with the treo. I blame the poor performance on the treo and not on the device. I highly recommend the 665 for any phone other than treo. It is super light wieght and and extremely comfortable.

Pros:  good sound quality
Cons:  talk time is no where near 3.5 hours

It is very hard to keep paired. Talk time is too short. Maybe lasted an hour after charging all night.
