TreoCentral Expert Review

TC Review: Palm Sync and Charge Cradle
Reviewed by Douglas Morse
The Palm Cradle charging combo is awesome. It does everything it is meant to do: charge, sync, and store and charge an extra battery, and it does it all with aplomb. It’s an accessory I didn’t know I needed, and now that I have it, never want to give up. But wait, there’s more.

This unit is just about perfect. It holds the Treo at just the right angle if you need to check an appointment, look up a contact, or take a Bluetooth call. The unit’s simple plastic bottom pads keep it from slipping around my slick wood laminate desktop.

What I like most about the unit is the least expected. The charging drawer for the extra battery is just right. From the pictures and descriptions on some product pages, it is neigh impossible to tell where the battery will go or how it will charge. Here’s how it works: pulling on a spot just behind where the Treo sits reveals a small cavity for a battery. Slide it in, close the slot, and the battery is hidden from view – and charging.

StarStarStarStarStar Practical and useful system

Pros:  The pros are extra battery storage and dual-charging capability. Use ful charging ability with either AC or computer usb connections. Allows owner to view his/her messages, incoming-calls, schedules, emails while in nested in its cradle on charge. The
Cons:  Here is my constructive critisism about the cradle. Since I use it between 4-8 hours on a daily baisis while the phone is in the craddle. The connection for charging sometimes does not always charge readily. I learned that the sound it makes when charg

I find this product highly affective, functional and practical for my daily administrative tasks and efforts. I can with ease review my daily or weekly schedule, reply to emails, and keep sychronized with my desktop contacts, emails and bluetooth calls.
StarStarStarStarStar Well-designed, great little charging dock!

Pros:  Well thought out, great bay for charging second batteru, connections fit tight, small profile, price is a bargain!
Cons:  -

I have to say, this charging dock from Palm is a very nicely made little product. If I had to say anything bad about it, it would be that Id prefer not getting all the overseas adapter plugs if it could save me a few bucks. Other than that, I love it!

So, where to begin... well, it arrived the DAY after I purchased it and even the packaging was easy to open. (No surgical knife needed)
It comes with the USB to dock adapter cable (quite long) as well as the power cable (also quite long) The connections of those into the bottom of the unit are a very snug fit, as is the fit of the Treo into the cradle itself. And the unit is not only light, but not much wider than the phone, so when its docked, you barely see the dock other than the bottom portion with the charging light and the sync button.

What you *do* see is your Treo prominently propped up rather than laying down on the desk, face-up... which means you can see if the display lights up with a call or appointment, and you can use the stylus without having to hold the phone from moving.

And none of this even touches on its best feature yet. I knew it was capable of charging a second battery. But I expected to have to place it in on some strange angle, and use a key or pen to remove it (because the dock seemed so small - how could you get a battery in and out of the inside of it easily?) Ill tell you how... when you remove the Treo from the dock, the back of the dock flips forward, almost 75 degrees, and the battery just drops in and pops out. It really is very well designed and thought out.

Its a great product, well designed, sleek, stupidly simple to use and worth every penny!
StarStarStarStarStar Works great!

I got this more for the charging factor than the synching factor, as I wanted it on my bedside table to keep my phone upright where I can see it easily and charge without having to hunt down a power cable... so I havent used it to synch (Because I really dont care if Im only using the cable or not being a laptop user.)

I plugged it in, set it up.. and away we went. It was really that easy, but come on.. its pretty straight forward right? I had read other reviews complaining it sounded like something was breaking when they tried to remove their phone.. but I honestly didnt notice that at all... I did notice that unless I was well balanced, I did have to use two hands to remove it, but thats gonna happen. When standing or sitting in front of it, I can remove my 755 easily with one hand. Its easy to dock my phone and the spare battery charging compartment is a definite bonus.

I chose the palm over all the other brands because of the reviews, and I am not disappointed. The best part is, this cradle will work for my 755 or my centro.. and hopefully, many more treos in the future.
StarStarStarStarStar A must for any Treo owner
User: Pamela Hazelton, Aug 20, 2007

Pros:  Charge phone & battery simultaneously
Cons:  Bulky - takes up too much room when traveling

This is a must if you have a spare battery and want to charge phone and spare simultaneously, using a single AC power source.
StarStarStarStarStar the perfect charger
User: Lisa Wood, May 23, 2007

Pros:  small footprint, ease of use, extra battery charger
Cons:  a little tough to remove treo but not bad

This cradle is better than I expected it to be. Holds the treo at the perfect angle, cords are long enough, and I love the extra battery charger compartment hidden in the back. The only thing that I would suggest is that they make it a little easier to remove the treo from the cradle. I have to hold down the cradle with one hand while removing the treo with the other.
