two weeks, and I *like* it!
User: Ken L, Jun 21, 2007
Pros: easy to use, snug and reliable
Cons: ear hooks are tricky
Two weeks, and already I like this alot! I have the notoriously unpocketable Jawbone headset which is an excellent set but a complete pain in the a** to store, until I found the Tooth Ferry!

This holster has a feature not shown in the pictures. The clip has a fishhook end to it, so once on the belt it does *not* come off by accident. The elastic bands of the Ferry are high quality and a tight weave. So, in pulling out your headset, it neither catches threads on the bands, nor does the whole harness come off your belt.

I have not completely mastered the art of inserting the headset with one hand, but I get better every day. Learning curve aside, it is such a joy not to have to dive into my pocket (past the keys, coins and whatever) to get the headeset for a call. One ring and I'm answering.

Ear hooks, well, maybe a problem. But if you ask me, they are always a problem, that's why my previous headset was wrap around. Had to have the noise cancellation of the Jawbone, so now I suffer some.

The ear hook on the Jawbone inserts through the post for the earplug which actually holds the headset well to the head (necessary for the bone vibration pickup) and conveniently for this holster is well to one end of the headset. It can dangle outside and not get hung up when retrieving the set.

The only place this is a problem is in the car. But then again, I don't trust anything that clips to my belt to hold up well against the damage a hung up seat belt can do. Even the horizontal holster I have for my Treo comes off when I get in my car. I hook them both to the back of the passenger seat (magazine pocket).

So, advice:
Headsets with no hook ... a breeze!
Headsets with a close folding hook (see web site examples) your probably good too.
Headsets with dangly hooks ... good luck, I think this will still work for you with some adjustment in habits, but unless you can find a custom harness (or some other solution) its going to be rough finding a good solution.

Ken

P.S. Recently I found that the Jawbone can be used under light duty without a hook and the right choice of ear plugs! Now I stow the hook between the Ferry and my belt (that's how firmly it holds!). I just have to remember to hold the hook with my thumb when removing the harness.
