HP Veer Mobi Products Cradle w/ Spare Battery Slot

Product Description

This Mobi Products Cradle with spare battery slot for Treo Pro let's you easily charge your Smartphone and a spare battery at the same time. Easily synchronize and charge your Treo Pro with any USB-enabled computer. Just connect the cradle to your computer's USB and you are set. The Smartphone is charged through your computer's USB port.

The cradle features a spare battery charger - great to have if you have multiple batteries. If you want to use the cradle's spare battery charger, you also need to connect the bundled AC adapter. The AC adapter does not charge your device, it only provides power to the battery slot.

*Note: Phones with an EXTENDED battery/battery door cannot charge in the cradle. The extended battery must be removed from the phone and placed in the spare battery charger.

TC Review: Mobi Products Treo Pro Sync and Charge Cradle
Reviewed by Justin DeJarnette
The Mobi Products cradle is pretty large in size, at about 3-1/2" x 4-1/4". That much would probably be expected for a cradle that includes the extra battery slot. But while this may not be the sleekest cradle, it does do a good job of displaying the phone on your desk.

The main connection for the cradle is its built-in USB cable, which is about 4 feet long. This cord should be plenty long enough to reach from your desk to a USB port on your PC. The micro-USB connection for the phone sticks up from the base of the cradle, and even though there is only the one connector for the phone, it's not always easy to fit the phone in the cradle. I attribute this more to the thin micro-USB connector than the cradle itself. Once you do get the phone in the cradle, however, it fits very nicely. And it's much easier to remove the phone from the cradle.

There are dual LEDs on the top of the cradle, one that changes from red to green to indicate the status of the extra battery, and a blue one that's on all the time. Now, it's nice that the blue light is there, I guess, even though it really doesn't provide any information that you wouldn't get from the phone's display.

Although there are a few slight annoyances with this accessory, I definitely recommend it over the Palm cradle. For one this cradle has its own attached USB cable, which means that unlike the Palm version you don't have to use the micro-USB cable that came bundled with your Treo Pro. And of course there is the extra battery slot, so if you have an extra battery you can charge it at the same time. Since both cradles are priced at $24.95, it's actually a no-brainer.

StarStarStarStarStar Works as advertised
User: Bill Kraski, Jan 2, 2009

Pros:  see headline
Cons:  requires second connection, could use dimmer LED

In the day of advertising hype, its always nice to see a product that does what it says it will in exactly the way its described to do it. Id prefer it if cradle makers make a way to charge both battery & phone with one connection. But two connections seem to be pretty common for phone/battery combo cradles. And they could dim the blue LED. Although it does make a nice night light in a dark room grin.
StarStarStarStarStar Very solid, good charger

Pros:  Powers both phone and battery simultaneously, syncs
Cons:  A bit boxy design and very bright LED (minor annoyances)

I just got this one and its actually pretty good. I was a bit leery after reading the other review, but I dont have a problem docking the phone in cradle and the spare battery charge works quickly as expected so that person must have gotten a bad unit. The worst things Ill say about it is that its design is a bit boxy--not overly big given the space needed for the spare battery charger, just not as slick as compared to the Palm charger. Ill also comment theres a blue LED that is INSANELY bright. Not during the day or with lights on, but wow I wouldnt want it next to my bed at night sleeping. You can always put some black tape over if it gets too annoying.. :)
StarStarStarStarStar Works okay but....

Generally I was satisfied with the appearance and the way this unit functioned. Putting the Treo Pro in the charger isnt as easy as it should be. The biggest disappointment comes when I use the battery only slot with Seideco 1750 mah battery. The charger will not take the over capacity battery beyond 86 full when used with the ac adaptor. It is fine with the Treo 1500 amp battery and will fully charge the OEM battery.
StarStarStarStarStar Very disappointed

Pros:  relatively inexpensive
Cons:  challenge to dock--insanely bright blue LED

I read a comment in a treocentral post that sounded good.

I ordered the device and it showep up exactly as planned and at the appropriate price. That is where the good news ends....

It was extremely difficult for me to make a connection when trying to insert my TP into the cradle but after some jockeying around I made the connection. After removing I had the same challenge re-connecting.

I received a spare battery today and put it in the battery charger and it fit great, however after leaving for about 2 hours I came back and inserted the battery into my Treo and it only registered a 20 charge--had it been in the Treo for this long it would have been at least 80 after that long. Not sure if the initial charge on this battery is tricky and after a cycle or two it will be better and the spare batter charger will work but too early to tell.

If the charger does eventually start to work correctly then I will proably just view this as a $25 battery charger which is about what they usually cost anyway and then go purchase another cradle that fits the phone better.
